Osram to Acquire California-based LED Supplier LED Engin Inc. Purchase to Boost Osram's Specialty Lighting Business

San Jose, CA, USA: Osram has agreed to acquire U.S.-based LED Engin Inc. in San Jose, California. The company has approximately 30 employees and annual sales of around USD 10 million. LED Engin specializes in ultra-bright, ultra-compact solid state lighting solutions for variety of specialty markets including entertainment lighting, ultraviolet, horticulture, tunable white and medical lighting applications. Its products mainly incorporate LED chips from Osram Opto Semiconductors. "LED Engin opens up new opportunities for us to offer our customers tailored specialty lighting solutions. LED Engin products are suitable for a variety of specialty applications, making them an ideal addition to our portfolio," said Hans-Joachim Schwabe, CEO of Osram's Specialty Lighting (SP) business unit.

San Jose, CA, USA: LED Engin, Inc. announces the world's first 7-color, high power LED to be produced on a single emitter. The compact LZ7-04MU00 emitter enables the design of stage or architectural lighting that produces sophisticated effects over the full color spectrum. Its RGBW die are complemented by phosphor-converted (PC) amber, cyan and violet to provide richer, wide-ranging color effects. PC amber delivers the same saturation as regular amber but with 5 times the flux at temperature, cyan fills the spectrum gap between blue and green, and violet enables black or crisp white lighting effects. Typical stage and studio applications include moving heads with zoom optics and round wash lights. In architectural lighting, the emitters enhance the performance of everything from static lights to linear wash lights.

San Jose, CA, USA- LED Engin, Inc. has launched a 4-die, high current, RGBW flat lens LED emitter that sets a new standard for best-in-class flux density in stage, entertainment and architectural lighting. The LZ4-04MDPB emitter delivers more than twice the light output of the company's previous version because each individually addressable green, blue and white die can be driven at up to 3 amps and the red die up to 2.5 amps from the same 2.15mm x 2.15mm light emitting surface as its predecessor. The emitter's output ranges from tungsten-effect white lighting to a full spectrum of brilliant colors in fixtures such as moving heads with zoom optics, directional effect lighting and wall washes.
