OSRAM Showcases Innovation at Live Design International (LDI) 2016, Expanding Options for Entertainment Lighting

This year, Osram’s exhibit will include the launch of its HMI® STUDIO series and advancements to its Lok-it!® HTI and HMI® UVS families.
The HMI STUDIO metal halide lamp series, with a tungsten-like 3200 K color temperature, has been specifically engineered to replicate interior incandescent lighting on film sets, theater stages, and television studios. An evolution in metal halide lamps, and with a lifetime identical to traditional Osram HMI lamps, the HMI STUDIO series will simplify the stage by delivering best-in-class light while eliminating the need for redundancy through separate tungsten halogen fixtures and lamps.

Lower temperature and simplicity in setup and use.
A new innovation in metal halide lamps, HMI STUDIO simplifies stages, studios, and sets. Traditional HMI lamps provide bright, white, full spectrum lighting of 6000 K color temperature, but unlike standard HMI lights, HMI STUDIO lamps have an outer bulb jacket that absorbs much of the spectrum in the lower wavelengths, allowing only the warmer light to escape and reducing the color temperature from 6000 K to 3200 K. The lamps work in discharge fixtures and eliminate the need for separate tungsten halogen fixtures, their lamps, and CTO filters. HMI STUDIO supports easier setup with less handling, offering a plug-and-play option, as well as reduced costs associated with storing, maintaining, and transporting extra fixtures. The HMI STUDIO lamps shine two times brighter than a tungsten halogen lamp with a similar wattage. These metal halide lamps provide a natural-looking light and reveal a set’s true colors with a high color rendering index (CRI) of more than 92.
High light intensity, low UV emissions.
In addition to announcing HMI STUDIO at LDI, Osram is previewing new items within its HMI UVS and Lok-it! HTI lamp families. The additions to the HMI UVS family include higher wattage options HMI 2500W/SE UVS and HMI 4000W/SE UVS. Osram’s HMI UVS lamps, with their signature orange colored bases, provide high light intensity and reduce ultraviolet emissions from the fixture while also extending the life of the fixture components. With the patented doped UV-Stop (UVS) quartz outer jacket these lamps reduce the harmful UVB and UVC emissions up to 99.9 percent. The product line includes lamps in various wattages to suit every application – from movie studios and film sets to theater stages – and range from 200W to 4000W.
For Lok-it!®, comprised of single-end metal halide and halogen lamps with Lok-it! bases, Osram has added HTI 1000/PS BLUE to its lineup. HTI 1000/PS BLUE, the third 1000 watt lamp in the Lok-it! Power Series, has a 7500 K color temperature and emits bright whites for cutting through other colors on the stage.
Special highlight: Revolutionary PHASER technology.
Osram is once again proving itself to be an expert and an innovation leader in the field of customer-specific solutions. After successfully being introduced into the field of medicine and the automotive industry, laser technology is now set to revolutionize the entertainment market. The Osram PHASER, which will be shown at the company’s booth at LDI, stands for phosphor and laser, and is combined to create light with high luminance, which has the potential to replace many light sources which are currently used with lamps in various fields of application.
SPLITSTAR® S32: Multi-chip LED module with extremely high luminance, compact design.
The S32, also being showcased at the show, has an extremely convincing high luminous flux of up to 20,000 lumens. In combination with its high luminance of 140 cd/mm² and extremely low thermal resistance of 0.2 K/W, a much lighter optical design is possible. Thanks to its operating life of up to 20,000 hours and the integrated NTC 8 (Negative Temperature Coefficient), the LED module ensures constant and reliable performance. The S32 is suitable for OEM lighting manufacturers from the entertainment sector, for industrial and architectural lighting, or as a searchlight.
