OSRAM Puts the ‘Human’ in Human Centric Lighting at Boston TechJam

Tech lighting leader to demo eyewear used by German ski team and BMW Motorsports

06.04.2018

WILMINGTON, MA – OSRAM, a global high-tech lighting company, will demonstrate its latest development in human centric lighting (HCL) technology at Boston TechJam on June 14, 2018. OSRAM’s HCL technology takes many forms, and the application OSRAM will have on hand at Boston TechJam comes in the form of HCL eyewear, which was used by the German ski team as they competed in the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang. The ski team came in second, collecting 31 medals – 14 gold, 10 silver, and seven bronze. Additionally, the glasses were used by the BMW Motorsport team for the 24-hour race in Nürburgring in 2017, and will be used by the BMW team during the 24-hours of Le Mans race in France on June 16-17. At Boston TechJam, OSRAM will be located in the Be Innovative Village #I2 on Boston’s City Hall Plaza.

Boston TechJam attendees can test drive the eyewear to see how they benefit athletes, travelers and others by replicating various levels of daylight in an effort to provide our bodies with light of varying color temperatures and intensities, depending on the desired outcome. This is particularly beneficial to help combat jet lag, and to help athletes who are competing at off hours “trick” their bodies into thinking it’s morning or mid-afternoon, for example, when they are at peak performance.

“OSRAM is mid-transformation – people have known us for many years as a light bulb or headlight company, especially when they hear we’re technically OSRAM Sylvania,” said Lori Brock, Head of Innovation, OSRAM Americas Region. “But as we’ve shifted away from traditional lighting and manufacturing, we are transforming into a tech company that uses visible and invisible light in a lot of very cool and new ways. From these HCL glasses that improve quality of life, to smart horticultural lighting for urban locations and vertical farms, to autonomous driving, entertainment and architectural lighting, and a lot more. This is our first time at Boston TechJam, and we’re looking forward to spending time with other tech leaders to learn more about the innovations they find most fascinating in the Boston area.”

OSRAM also will have 3-D goggles on hand so that attendees can check out a 360 video of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City, which was retrofitted with thousands of OSRAM LEDs to better highlight the architecture and artwork in one of Italy’s most historic and most beautiful locations.

Additionally, OSRAM will host a social media contest in which the winner, selected at random, will win a DJI Spark Mini Drone, which is supported with technology from OSRAM. The Terms & Conditions can be found here.
