HCL brings daylight indoors by reproducing the natural hues and brightness of nature. This dynamic natural light positively impacts human wellbeing by helping to regulate our circadian rhythm, which is our 24 hour sleep-wake cycle. Every day, the human body’s circadian rhythm is reset by exposure to light. However, irregular exposure to daylight can lead to adverse health effects including depression, sleep disorders, obesity, fatigue, and other issues. HCL technology such as Osram’s TW system mimics the natural daylight cycle, making it ideally suited for classrooms where student focus is important, offices where concentration is important, and skilled nursing or hospital patient rooms where occupants may experience sleep cycle issues and other health-related problems.
“Human centric lighting can benefit human health and wellbeing but often tunable white solutions compromise on light quality and can be difficult to install, commission and use,” said Naveen Tumula, product group marketing manager, Osram Digital Systems, Americas region. “For those environments that need a centrally managed, connected solution, this tunable white system is compatible with light management systems capable of communicating via DALI for type 8 devices. It is also easy to implement as a standalone solution.”
Digital-based systems ensure consistent light quality regardless of the size of the space. Analog-based systems can have a variation in lighting quality from fixture to fixture due to signal inconsistency, whereas digital control ensures high quality, consistent light levels across luminaires. The OSRAM TW System utilizes digital commands for color tuning, ensuring a high level of performance.
