OSRAM, Globacore Deliver Illuminating Experience at CES 2018
Virtual Osram CTO takes visitors on a ride into the future of automotive lighting
LAS VEGAS, NV – OSRAM, the global No. 1 in automotive lighting, has teamed up again with Globacore and Taylor Group for CES 2018 to deliver a unique exhibit environment with an exclusive virtual reality (VR) experience highlighting OSRAM’s innovation in the automotive lighting market. The VR experience will feature three segments from which visitors can choose: Autonomous Driving; Headlights of the Future; and Smart Interiors, each delivering a novel perspective on the impact of visible and invisible lighting applications inside and outside an automobile. Additionally, the experience will be guided by an avatar of OSRAM’s Chief Technology Officer Stefan Kampmann – a first in the VR world. Globacore is an award-winning creative technology company based in Toronto, Ontario, specializing in virtual reality, game design and development. Taylor Group is a global brand experience agency uniting brands with their target audiences through events, environments and digital engagement.
“Globacore has proven to be an ideal partner, helping OSRAM deliver a unique VR experience to demonstrate to visitors how we are driving the future of automotive lighting,” Kampmann said. “At CES, we will show visitors how light can improve quality of life, impacting not only the ability to see farther down the road, but how it enables autonomous driving. Light also can be used in interior applications to enhance a driver’s or passenger’s mood or relieve jet lag, and much more.”
By using the HTC Vive virtual reality headset, which includes OSRAM technology, Globacore is able to deliver a truly immersive experience. From sharing a vehicle with other avatars on a journey from the airport to the Las Vegas Strip, to making their mark in the virtual night sky, visitors will learn how OSRAM is transforming life through light. Delivering a branded VR experience that is both social (the experience takes place with others in the same vehicle) and personal (each person selects their own experience) is another unique aspect of the Osram VR experience at CES 2018.
“OSRAM presented us with a challenge: ‘Deliver a VR experience that not only demonstrates the incredible impact of light on quality of life, but also demonstrates the immense power of invisible light,’” said Denis Lirette, Creative Director of Globacore. “VR provides a unique journey, we want you to feel like you are somewhere new with other attendees, to look around, to reach out to touch things – but how do you look at something that’s invisible, how do you touch something that’s invisible? That’s the fun part -- we accepted the challenge and are excited to see the reactions of visitors as they take off their VR headset after they’ve completed this social Osram VR experience.”
At the conclusion of the VR experience, visitors will have the opportunity to do a deeper dive on any of the technologies presented in the VR (or get back in line to experience the other two technologies – it’s hard to choose just one), including LiDAR, Digital Micro-Mirror Device, Eviyos, and biometrics displays, as well as ZEVO® hybrid automotive lighting that can be controlled via the free ZEVO® app.
Beginning Jan. 5, 2018, videos of the VR experiences will be available via private link for those who are unable to visit the OSRAM booth. OSRAM is located in Booth #3115 in the North Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center during CES, Jan. 9-12, 2018. www.osram.com/CES.
